Are you feeling the weight of another year coming to an end and a new one looming? Whether you need strength for the new year or grace for this past year, these scriptures for new beginnings will inspire you as you go into 2023.

Scriptures for New Beginnings in 2023

2 Corinthians 5:17

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

For those who need an extra dose of grace this year, stop here. This is your verse. Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. Period. End of discussion. No matter what your year looked like, your old life is gone. Go into this new year a new person, one whose identity is in Christ and Christ alone.

Proverbs 31:25

“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”

There are many beautiful pieces to this verse. One being the two ways to define the word “clothed.” The first is in the traditional sense. The New King James Version words it like this “strength and honor are her clothing.” A woman of virtue wears strength and dignity (honor) well. They are qualities that she puts on and possess, which is also the second definition.

Strength is a quality that we can possess. Do we walk in confidence of who our God is? Or do we falter at the sight of the future? This verse says, “she laughs without fear of the future.” It would be nice if we could do this all the time, but it’s often difficult. Here is where that strength comes into play. When we rely on Jesus as our strength, nothing about the future can hurt us. We can look at it and move forward knowing that we will always have Him on our side.

Luke 10:38-42

“…Mary sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught...”

The story of Mary and Martha is such a beautiful picture of the way Jesus just wants us to sit with Him. This holiday season, as the things start to become heavy, would you run to Jesus and sit at His feet. Jesus tells Martha, “There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:42). How amazing that He tells us the only thing we need to be concerned about is sitting with Him? In this season of new beginnings, reflect on this story and be prayerful about the ways in which you can sit at His feet this coming year. Would 2023 be full of still moments with your Creator, moments that cannot be taken away.

Psalm 30:5

“Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes in the morning.”

This is a hard truth to believe sometimes. When all we want to do is grieve, we have this promise that joy will come. When you are walking through the night, when you feel alone and lost, know that your hurt will not last forever. Following Jesus means that we will have joy, and it is yours to grasp this season. Lean into your Heavenly Father as you believe for joy in the morning.

Psalm 106:24

“The people refused to enter the pleasant land, for they wouldn’t believe his promise to care for them.”

Gosh, I cannot imagine if this statement was written about us today. My prayer is that we would be women who take God for His word and trust His promises for us. When it feels like the promise will never come, trust He never lets you down and will fulfill every single word that He’s spoken over your life.

Colossians 1:11-14

“… For he has rescue us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.”

I love way the Lord is constantly reminding us of His remarkable grace and mercy towards us. When we become children of God, we are children of His Kingdom and no longer apart of the kingdom of darkness. This scripture for new beginnings is powerful because we do not have to pay for our own freedom or forgiveness, it was purchased for us by Jesus. If you feel heavy from this past year, if you feel the burdens and the chains that were once removed are back, know you have freedom in Jesus’ name. I love these lyrics, “who the Son sets free, is free indeed.”

Hebrews 13:5

“For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

This is one of my all-time favorite scriptures for new beginnings. When everything seems to be against us, we have a God who will never leave or fail us. The writer describes the great people of faith in this book as having “died still believing what God had promised them” (Hebrews 11:13). Wow. Would this also be true of us. We have a beautiful hope and promise of never being left alone. As you go into this new year, would you trust that He is for you. He loves you. And He is never going to fail you or abandon you.

This article could not hold all the scriptures for new beginnings, but they are a few that we pray are an encouragement to you for this upcoming year. Would these verses for new beginnings be a blessing to you.
